The Division of Astrophysics conducts research on black holes, neutron stars, galaxies, galaxy clusters, large-scale structure of the universe, and other topics using large-scale numerical computations, particularly large-scale hydrodynamic simulations, and develops numerical codes for such computations. We invite applications for an assistant professor who will advance research in computational astrophysics through these activities. After appointment, the successful candidate is also expected to actively engage in GPU acceleration and the incorporation of machine-learning techniques, as well as interdisciplinary computational science research in collaboration with other divisions. The successful candidate will also contribute to education in the Degree Program in Physics, Graduate School of Science and Technology, and the College of Physics, School of Science and Engineering.
Starting Date: April 1, 2027 (negotiable)
Period: Five years from the date of appointment. Based on performance evaluations during the appointment period, the candidate may transition to a position without a fixed term.
Requirements: Applicants must hold a doctoral degree or be expected to obtain one by the date of appointment.
