Introduction of a New Supercomputer with the World’s First NVIDIA H100 PCIe and Non-Volatile Memory

Highlights

  • Next-generation Intel Xeon, NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPU with PCIe and 48TFlops of extreme performance, and 2 TiB of non-volatile memory strongly drive Big Data and AI
  • The world’s first announcement of the introduction of a system with the next generation Xeon and the next generation Optane non-volatile memory
  • The world’s first system with NVIDIA H100 PCIe GPUs connected via PCIe Gen5
  • First system announced in Japan that will utilize NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand networking

Tsukuba, Japan – May 12, 2022 – The Center for Computational Sciences at the University of Tsukuba announces that a new supercomputer from NEC will be installed on October 31, 2022.
The new supercomputer will be the first system in the world to introduce Intel’s next generation Xeon CPUs, next generation Optane non-volatile memory, and NVIDIA’s H100 PCIe GPU with 48TFlops of breakthrough acceleration.
The new supercomputer will also utilize the NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand networking platform.

Memory bandwidth and I/O bandwidth are increased by DDR5 and PCIe Gen5.
Not only can non-volatile memory be used as a large memory of 2 TiB through memory expansion, but it also allows direct access to non-volatile data structures, which has the potential to dramatically improve application performance.
In addition, unlike DRAM, non-volatile memory does not require refresh to retain data, thus reducing power consumption compared to DRAM of the same capacity.
Introducing the world’s first technology, we strongly support not only HPC but also Big Data and AI.

The existing Cygnus supercomputer is interconnected by the NVIDIA Quantum InfiniBand platform for integrated operation.
