Associate Professor Doan Quang Van of the Center for Computational Sciences (CCS), University of Tsukuba, participated in the Fourth Lead Author Meeting (LAM4) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Special Report on Climate Change and Cities, held in Bhopal, India, from 3–7 August 2026.
As a Lead Author of Chapter 2, Associate Professor Doan contributes his expertise in urban climate science, including urban heat, precipitation extremes, and compound and cascading climate risks. At LAM4, authors from around the world worked to advance the report following the international review of its Second-Order Draft.
Cities are home to a growing share of the world’s population and concentrate people, infrastructure, economic activity, and climate risks. The IPCC Special Report will provide a global scientific assessment of climate change in cities and the options available for adaptation and mitigation, helping connect climate science with decisions on future urban development.
Scheduled for completion in March 2027, the Special Report will be the first report released as part of the IPCC Seventh Assessment Cycle (AR7).
